WELCOME

'Let the bright Seraphim inspire us!' Don’t worry - I’m not about to launch into a full Handelian aria. But I have taken on another Director’s challenge, and I’d love you to take part (details below).

Just as my RSCM colleagues and I work every day to support you – the thousands who are passionate about church music – I know many of you face your own local challenges. We’re here to walk alongside you. In a world that can feel dark and demanding, let’s continue our journey together in faith, hope, and love. Read on for reasons to be encouraged!

YOUR GIFT, THEIR SONG

Church music has a truly transformative impact on the lives of young people. We are working hard to increase opportunities for them to sing in church - perhaps you’re already part of our Young Voices Network or have used our Young Voices Toolkit (do have a look if you haven’t yet).

But there is still so much more to do if we are to create a sustainable pathway for growth. Your support really can change what we are able to achieve.

By giving to our Annual Appeal, you’ll help open doors for the next generation of singers. Please consider making a gift today - every contribution, large or small, makes a tangible difference. Thank you for your generosity.

DIRECTOR'S CHALLENGE
Friday to Saturday, 21–22 November

Hugh Morris will be playing the organ for a marathon ‘25 hours in 2025’ on 21–22 November, raising funds to support our education work. But in this Play the Organ Year it’s also about raising the profile of the organ.

So, organists everywhere are invited to get Hands on with Handel: Play your Part! Can we break a record? Full details, resources, registration forms and the music are all freely available and can be found by click the button below.

Time to get planning!

RSCM INTERNATIONAL CHORISTER DAY
Sunday, 5 October

Join us in celebrating the amazing opportunities that being a chorister provides, from our great cathedrals to the smallest parish churches.

You’ll find a range of resources on our website here, but the simplest ways to take part are:

  • Use the official prayer - either during a service or as a vestry prayer (download Prayer-for-RSCM-ICD.pdf).
  • Post on social media using #internationalchoristerday.

If you share on Instagram, your post should appear on our social media wall, which will be reinstated shortly.

SUMMER COURSES 2025

We’ve enjoyed a wonderful summer of singing and learning, with around 150 children, young people and adults taking part in three residential courses during August. The Youth Choir gathered in Chester under the direction of Adrian Lucas, with Chester also hosting this year’s Residentiary Choir. Our summer concluded with our much-loved annual visit to Bath.

One Bath Course participant reflected: 'On this course, I have learnt so much. It has boosted my confidence, and I am good at sight-reading now'.

Keep an eye on our website and social media for announcements about our 2026 courses!

EMERGING LEADERS

Alongside more than 100 children and young people, we were delighted to work with three of our Emerging Leaders at this summer’s residential courses. Emma Baker and Joel Colyer joined us in Bath, while Miriam Reveley took part in the Youth Choir course in Chester.

Each had the chance to conduct choirs in services and concerts, as well as to work closely with our course music staff, gaining valuable experience and developing skills they can take forward into their musical careers.

AND FINALLY...

If you weren’t in the live audience, you missed a real treat. Our most recent online evening, ‘Working in Harmony’, featuring the Very Reverend Abigail Thompson (Dean of Sheffield Cathedral) and Tom Daggett (Director of Music at Sheffield), was informative, helpful, and genuinely entertaining.

RSCM Members can watch it for free in the Members Area. Don’t forget to book your place for upcoming sessions – free for Members, £10 for non-members. Covering a wide range of topics, there’s something for everyone.
