Forthcoming Events

Happy New Year and welcome to our first newsletter of 2026. This year promises to be an exciting one for the RSCM so do remember to visit our Events page to keep up-to-date with all RSCM activities.

This newsletter also provides an opportunity for Members to publicise their church music events so if you are planning a 'come and sing', choral festival, study day, choral or organ workshop, we would be delighted to hear from you!  Please see the Member Organised Event section below for details on how to register your event.

Come & Sing Evensong with Hugh Morris

Save the date!  Hugh Morris is delighted to be returning to Hexham Abbey and Northumberland at the end of February.

On Saturday 28 February he will lead two sessions in St Andrew's Church, Corbridge: a practical forum from 10.00am-12.00pm looking at resources for smaller and rural churches, and a Come & Sing Evensong. On Sunday 1 March Hugh will also deliver an address during the 10.00am service at the Abbey, and take part in the Taize and Iona-inspired evening service.

Hugh says: “I am looking forward to catching up with old friends and making new ones on a return visit to the North East, where I happily lived for 8 years. If you would like to come and find out about what can be done in smaller church settings, get some inspiration for fresh ways of resourcing services with music, what the RSCM is doing to support music in worship, or just a good sing, then keep an eye out for details and I look forward to seeing you at one of the events planned across the weekend; you will be very welcome.”

Full details, including how to book, will appear soon on our website in the What’s On Section.

RSCM Online Events

A programme of monthly informative presentations and discussions.

A Helping Hand for New Organists - Wednesday 21 January at 7:00pm

Especially those less experienced or playing without pedals.

  • Do you have limited keyboard experience, but want to accompany worship with increased confidence?
  • Are you looking for simple ways to accompany hymns effectively?
  • Do you need ideas for simple music for before and after the service?

Join Hugh Morris (RSCM Director) in discussion with Robert Gower (author of Simply Organised, a new volume of 57 hymn tunes made easy to play, and editor of well-regarded volumes of organ music) as they look at simple ideas to elevate church music in smaller settings.

RSCM Music Sunday

Save the date!  Music Sunday 2026 will take place on Sunday 14 June.

Music Sunday is, as always, a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the work, dedication and talents of all those associated with church music and to raise funds for your church and the work of the RSCM.

Why not put it in the church diary now?

Our top suggestion for 2026 is to hold a Come & Sing service. Fitting with our theme of Community, this is a wonderful way of bringing singers and listeners into the church and can be a useful tool for recruitment.

Resources will be coming over the next couple of months so do keep an eye on the website. These will include a suggested music list.
